It’s crazy, isn’t it? Like anything in life, it just starts off with 1 moment, or 1 incident or 1 day.
Like the butterfly effect, it compounds, moment by moment, day by day until you find yourself rearranging who you are to handle situations in life that other people seem to have no trouble with.
When I interviewed moms who dealt with anxiety in their lives, and even some of their kids, I got some amazing feedback.
These moms tried out a pressure point to relieve Anxiety on themselves and their children and had amazing, quick results - the same pressure point I’m giving you in this blog!
In their feedback, however, I learned a lot. I learned that anxiety was affecting them in many areas of their lives. Some in more than one area at a time. Here are the 5 most common:
Family - Moms are holding it all together. Giving, giving, giving. Proud of it too, I might add! But they’re seeing the impact: it’s when they can’t take one more tear from their child, or they didn’t have time to shower before their date with their spouse, or rearranging work to try to make it to their kid’s school play. That rushing feeling, up in the chest, when it tightens and your breathing shallows: pay attention. That’s anxiety. You don’t need a doctor to tell you that. You know how you feel, and you need to listen.
The second area is Work - How can you pay attention when you can’t concentrate? At disabilitybenefitscenter.org they state that “.....severe cases of anxiety disorders can affect your performance at work, making it difficult or impossible to hold down a job for any meaningful period of time.” You may be experiencing anything between a low-grade level of anxiety, all the way up to a severe case. When you’re not at your “ultimate self”, how can you give your best performance? When your mind is racing and it’s hard to have clear thoughts, acupressure points will bring you back to your best self.
The third area is Wellbeing + Vitality (specifically in the areas of fitness and assimilating nutrition into your body) - Feelings of Anxiety can take away from stores of energy in the kidneys. This depletes you and makes it difficult to find energy or motivation to take action in fitness. With that said, fitness will improve and aid in the release of anxiety from your body. I recommend you start small with some sort of exercise you enjoy and work your way up. This will, also, improve absorption of nutrients. It can be hard for the body to digest food when your breathing is shallow and your stomach is tight (both body symptoms associated with anxiety).
Sleep - Doesn’t it just plain suck when all you need is a good night’s sleep and you’re on this spin wheel of high anxious energy during the day? Then, when you finally get to bed, you can’t fall asleep or you wake up in the middle of the night? Vision - A Vision for your future is very important for your overall happiness in life. If you’re anxious, it can be difficult to dig into finding your ‘true’ place in life. To access your purpose, you need to be able to be still to hear deep within your soul. You need to be able to pay attention to the clues your body is giving you, as well as your environment. Anxiety keeps you in your head and cuts you off from connecting to these necessary things, and thus deeper feelings of life.
In all my work, I aim to make the point that a symptom is just that. A symptom of something that isn’t working at a deeper level. Symptoms are often a later result of something that has been stuck for quite a while and now your body is trying to get your attention. It’s trying to give you a message.
